Welcome to The Winter Kitchen. These terms set out the simple understanding between the site and the people who read it. By browsing these pages you accept them, and if anything here does not sit right with you, the fairest thing is simply not to use the site. We have tried to keep this short and readable, in the same spirit as the rest of the kitchen.

What this site is

The Winter Kitchen is a collection of written entries about cold-season cooking: choosing roots, building a braise, spicing a pot, and stocking a pantry for the colder months. It is offered as general reading and everyday kitchen inspiration. It is not professional cooking instruction, and it is not nutritional, dietary or health advice. Use your own judgement in your own kitchen, especially where hot pots, ovens, sharp knives or ingredients you may react to are involved.

Using the content

The words, layout and photographs on this site are the work of The Winter Kitchen and are here for your personal, non-commercial reading. You are welcome to share a link to an entry or mention it to a friend. Please do not copy entries wholesale, republish them as your own, or use the material commercially without asking first. A brief quote with a clear credit and a link back is always fine.

Kitchen safety and your own judgement

Cooking always involves a degree of personal responsibility. Ovens, hobs and pots of simmering liquid get very hot, and ingredients vary from one kitchen to the next. Follow the safety instructions for your own equipment, take normal care around heat and blades, and if you have any allergy or specific dietary need, check ingredients yourself before relying on anything described here. The suggestions in these entries are starting points, not guarantees of a particular result.

Availability

We aim to keep the site running and its pages readable, but we cannot promise it will always be available or completely free of errors. From time to time entries may be updated, added or removed as the kitchen grows, and access may be interrupted for maintenance or reasons beyond our control.
